Mike Gerken, English
Mike Gerken is an English teacher as well the Girl's Basketball coach. He has been teaching at Dos Pueblos for 3 years. Mr. Gerken was convinced the first day he subbed that he would become a teacher. He is a graduate from the University of Santa Barbara. His favorite part of teaching is meeting over 150 people every year, and also being able to spend time with a lot of really good people. "Never cook bacon bare-chested!" is his philosophy for life. Spending free time is a challenge as Gerken stated "Free time? ... I teach English!" If he does find a spare moment to himself, he likes watching Charger athletics and playing golf. He has a wife and two daughters (5 and 2). Mr. Gerken's hope for the next generation is for every student to read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho before going on to college. "It's short and easy, I promise."
