John Dent, Math
Every morning when students watch DP News, kudos go out to the co-advisor
and teacher, John Dent. Mr. Dent moved to Goleta, from his native Canada,
four years ago. While Mr. Dent was hired at DPHS to teach math, his true
passions are for computers, technology, and volleyball.
Mr. Dent studied at the University of Western Ontario, where he received a
Bachelor of Science in Math. He then earned his Honors Bachelor of Commerce
from the University of Windsor after discovering his love for business. One
week after completing his second bachelor's degree, Mr. Dent traveled to
Europe and ended up staying for an extended journey; his adventure included
work and travel over a 2 1/2 year period. Upon his return to North America,
Mr. Dent started his own internet-based student travel business and began
coaching volleyball at Kingsville District High School. His experiences as
a coach inspired him to pursue a teaching career and so yet again, Mr. Dent
enrolled at the University of Windsor where he received his Bachelors of
Education.
Mr. Dent's favorite part of teaching is interacting with the students and
helping them succeed. He advises students to "Live every moment as if it is
the most important. Care about those around you. Be nice."
On February 23, 2005, Mr. Dent's daughter, Sarah Elisabeth, was born. He
now enjoys most of his free time with Sarah.
